The North Shannon Motor Yacht Club (NSMYC) was initially founded by a small group of inland waterways enthusiasts who enjoyed nothing more than cruising in good company and along the way, imbibing in the many unique hostelries of the upper River Shannon and its lakes, backwaters, tributaries and canals.

Today, its membership still reflects that great love for and patronage of, these characterful establishments which are an integral part of the inland waterways and its ever-growing number of users. This is typically symbolised in the Club burgee - a tankard of beer on a yellow (desert-like) backdrop!

Whilst the majority of members tend to own a boat of some shape or size, the Club equally welcomes non-boat owners who are encouraged to attend Club functions, or even 'guest' or crew, on the various rallies and/or cruises-in-company throughout the year.  Unsurprisingly, bringing some 'hooch' on board, being able to play a musical instrument, or possessing an extensive repertoire of songs or ‘ditties’, are all decided 'crew' assets!

And needless to say, post 'closing time' parties on board, add a further serious dimension of enjoyment and ‘craic’ for Club Members.

The NSMYC 'Clubhouse' is Carthys Lock17 in beautiful Leitrim Village on the Shannon Erne Waterway, where genial host (and former Commodore) David Carthy offers an effusive welcome to Members and their Guests.

So, if you feel you are a kindred spirit, moulded in the same sense of 'joie de vivre', and carefree enjoyment, perhaps you should look us up.

Or even better still, get into the groove and join our legendary Club!
